Surprises AND Relevance to my own project:
The interview with George Church is relevant to my chosen final project topic and shares surprising views because it delves deeply into the idea of risk assessments in prediction. It highlights the need for a large sample population size for accuracy and advocates for data sharing within the community rather than keeping it hidden (2). Therefore, to gather a diverse range of data and ensure that the samples are representative, the statistical samples we currently have are neither satisfactory nor sufficient. They require a much larger database. Thus, even when we see advantages, the disadvantages would outweigh them, making the precise probability potentially in-actionable rather than actionable. Lastly, this interview relates to my final project because I am primarily examining the risk assessments associated with longevity assessments. This necessitates a large, rich debate and complete transparency; otherwise, nothing can be determined to be certain or actionable (1). Therefore, Prof. Church's claim further directs me to focus on the importance of data diversity and representation.
