Something that surprised me was the discussion on free will vs. determined behavior. When Professor asked him about everything being able to be placed into an equation/predict all human behavior, David Laibson responded that he didn't think we could ever get to a fully deterministic model. He said the ability to predict economic events 20 years in advance is unlikely. This surprised me because of recent advances in the world of AI. Maybe it would be impossible to predict ALL humans, but surely it could be possible to predict the behavior of one human. I previously assumed that this was possible and this interview surprised me that David didn't think it was.
