It was interesting to reflect upon the theory, mixed, and pure data aspects of Professor Henderson's discussion. I think something that was missing from her talk was more discussion on the extent of lag that we see between the economic theory that demand will create supply, which we see today with the younger generations but not with the main groups with wealth and therefore holding the most power in the market. Some of the implications discussed in terms of pure data were also noteworthy – specifically the effect that AI will have on jobs in the future and reduced hiring, which will then reduce the ability of people who care the most about green energy and climate change to express their preferences economically. In terms of the future, I think economics, specifically behavioral studies, should be the driving force for generating high-impact, cultural change in how climate change is viewed and discounted with present bias.
