I thought it was interesting how accurate algorithms could be at predicting Earthquakes. It originally seemed to me that earthquakes seemed to be fairly random events that occurred with little to no warning. However, having the ability to predict such events before they happen could be incredibly helpful, and save thousands, if not millions, of lives. Prediction in mobile health was also very intriguing to me. I was particularly interested in how prediction could help drug users and smokers quit: by predicting when people may be stressed, one can better plan ahead and prevent themselves from smoking.
In terms of questions, I would be curious which types of machine learning algorithms work best for earthquake predictions, and how might this be different than the algorithms used in mobile health.
