Over the last 16 years, Japan's birthrate has been declining. "The fertility rate is far below the rate of 2.06 -2.07 considered to be needed to maintain a population. Japan’s population of more than 125 million has been declining for 16 years and is projected to fall to 87 million by 2070." The government put together a $25.2 billion child care package to incentivize people to have children.
