I found the Drake Equation to be very interesting. This was discussed in "The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence" with Professor Alyssa Goodman and Jill Tarter. Tarter expresses that the Drake Equation does not calculate much because the uncertainty is massive. After further researching this equation on Wiki, I found that Frank Drake, a well-known and respected astrophysicist and astrobiologist, constructed the equation. Drake's construction of the equation was fueled by seeing a probabilistic way of estimating the number of extraterrestrial civilians that may be living within the Milky Way while having the ability to communicate actively. The interview and Website explain why a particular wavelength has been searched, as it may be the most logical if life was trying to convey. Although the equation cannot give us a precise answer, it has served as a road map to what scientists need to figure out further to potentially communicate with life, if there is any out there. I would like to hear more about this in our future class sessions, as there are many layers of this equation that I have yet to explore but would like to.
