The most surprising bit of information I learned is from Prof. Goodman and the behavioral economist, David Laibson's, discussion on how machine learning can help us predict, especially in relation to something known as the psychology of AI and psychological biases as described by Laibson. In it, Laibson emphasizes the utilization of complex machine learning algorithms as efficient and useful in a way that they can be deployed in banks to help them make decisions about extending credit. However, the real question is whether these seemingly unbiased algorithms yield biases and if they truly reflect the considerations and moral concerns that humans are capable of. So, what is really surprising to me is that many of us in our current society simply do not see or recognize this or have ever thought of this concern!!
