I thought that Dan Gilberts characterization of humans as essentially machines designed to constantly be predicting the future fascinating. I have never thought about our species this way, and that may be because I considered humans somewhat similar to animals in our predictive behavior. I did not realize the vast difference in in prediction brain power. I also thought Gilberts discussion on "smart" animals interesting because he delved into the underlying brain processes which determin how they predict something (like the presence of food), and how they differ from us.
