The conversation with Dr. Dan Gilbert was interesting to watch, and I took a lot of insight from the conversation. The most interesting part of the conversation for me was when Dr. Goodman and Dr. Gilbert discussed climate change and how we need to change people's behaviors and opinions to inspire them to change their actions to be more sustainable for the environment. Dr. Goodman mentioned that she thought that if scientists were able to make more accurate models, the public would be more diligent about taking climate change seriously and implementing more sustainable and environmentally friendly actions into their lifestyles. However, this wasn't the case, and Dr. Gilbert mentioned that these models would "fall on deaf ears" and that the best way to get people to change their behavior is for them to see other people change their behaviors as well. Seeing what other people are doing is the best form of social pressure to get others to change their behaviors. It was really interesting to learn more about this because it made me reflect on how humans are inherently social creatures, and while data/facts may not sway a person to change their actions, seeing what another person is doing might be just the thing.
