I think the most interesting part of this interview was the connection between computational abilities and genomic sequencing. I’ve previously been exposed to the idea of a law, more specifically Moore’s law, governing the advancement of computational ability over time. The link between the ability to predict or sequence a genome is also reliant on the ability for us to produce chips that can meet the computational demand of sequnecing algorithms. I think this is a relationship that needs to be monitored in the future so we can associate biological advancements, in areas like modeling protein folding etc., with a time line. If we know that the limitation is on the processing side we can make use of this information to allocate resources to push the upper bounds of technological advancement.
