In the Ben Shneiderman interview of 2018 he states that we should aim for innovations and inventions to be tools rather than partners or mimics of human behavior. He also mentions that in the early stages of innovation the new technology usually tries to mimic human behavior, which is exactly what we see right now with AI. In many places we see AI mimicking human behavior, and he thinks that this hinders the true usefulness of AI as a tool. As I begin to see more and more AI content on the internet I can't help but agree with Shneiderman on this point because the mimicry has a lot of negative impacts on the internet as a whole. Not being able to trust the information on the internet because it was created by an AI is a huge issue, and I think if people used AI as a tool instead this issue would be much smaller.
