The most surprising bit of information came Alyssa's and David's discussion of free will vs determinism in the "is human behaviour predictable" segment of the interview. It was the first time I have ever heard of La Plac's demon, which is the possibility we would know physics well enough that we could understand everything and could get to absolute determinism. While this was echoed by one of David Laibson's colleague, David's response was that he doesn't think that we could ever have "the ability to confidently predict economic events with horizon of 20 years within my lifetime or generations after". As a economist, I would expect him to have more confidence in the ability to project economics. Perhaps his training is what gave him the wisdom to say that.
