I will remember how it is insufficient to merely rely on one datapoint when using it to develop a view, especially for policy responses as we saw with the flawed Google Flu Trends. This stood out to me because looking at search engine trends is a very common practice in investing to get clues of where, for example, consumer trends are heading.
This interview will affect my future by showing me the importance of utilizing multiple viewpoints and datapoints to develop a predictive stance. Importantly, corroborating different datapoints is a very powerful technique. This is especially relatable when investing where there is so much accessible alternative data for one to gather together and interpret to get a wholistic view / thesis. For example, instead of only relying on search engine trends, I could corroborate those trends with what credit card data is saying.
