Identify and explain (in a paragraph) the most surprising bit of information you learned. (20 points)
The most surprising bit of information I learned from this interview was that behavioral economics actually closely relates to climate change. I learned about how people can't actually grasp the uncertainty related to climate change and thus understand the broad range of potential outcomes. They don't know what to do or how to help solve the problem given outcomes are so uncertain, in that case, and focus on what seems most likely in the moment. Another cool tidbit: I read the related article, and find it very interesting that the people involved in a problem affects our perception of and care for that problem. If we can't personify it, we care less - potentially because of evolutionary theory! I wonder if a superhero series could be created to position climate change as an evil villain and thus personify it/make it more relevant!
Here is an article on all climate change's potential impacts: Climate Change and Implications. University of Arizona. (n.d.). http://www.atmo.arizona.edu/students/courselinks/spring06/atmo336/lectures/sec6/implications.html
From that article, here is an image showing the range of potential impacts of climate change, which are all on spectrums of severity themselves:
