If I had the opportunity to conduct the interview, I would have been keen to delve into Jill Tarter's perspective on the integration of AI and robotics within the field of space exploration and SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) research because for times back then, it is so interesting to hear the perspectives of such an individual in her exploration of space along with her view on getting aid from other tools like sending robots into space. Specifically, I would ask Dr. Tarter, regarding the advancement of AI and robotics, do you view these technologies more as partners in exploration or as tools strictly under human operation? Additionally, in light of seeing them as potential partners, what strategies do you believe could effectively incentivize the funding of astronomical projects? Or, perhaps a better question, how can one secure funding for these initiatives in a world with myriad pressing concerns? Which projects, in your view, should be given priority?
This was also something I was curious about during the interview. I'd be interested in how scientists would use AI in exploration and how they plan on training them. I wonder what ethical considerations scientists would have to take into consideration when building and training these robots as well - what should they do if they do encounter some hostile form of life? I also love your question about what projects to prioritize, as this drives research and what envelopes people decide to push.
