In this interview, the main topic of discussion surrounded human psychology and predictions. Professor Gilbert had talked about various topics regarding prediction-making from a psychology perspective, from topics on a human's perspective on the past and future as well as a human's ability to imagine and how we can define memory. For me, the most interesting part of the interview surrounded Professor Gilbert's initial thoughts on predicting, saying that humans predict to mainly thinking about their ideal future, and map ways to attempt to reach a good future while avoiding the bad ones in contrast to accurately predicting what will happen in the future. From what we have seen in class with the definitions of predictions, I found this to be a quite unique definition.
One question that I have for Professor Gilbert is is there any way that cultural, societal, and other various contexts have a large influence on psychological predictions? If so, in what ways?
