The most interesting piece of information I learned from the Dan Gilbert interview was that there exists some animals who think about the future. Specifically, corvids learn from past and current experience to base their current behavior and set themselves up for some success in the future. To me, the birds' management of their food sounds like something they would do instinctively or even as a response to their current environment. I didn't believe that they were entirely thoughtless, but I did think that they'd engage only in some first-order thing. However, as explained, they collect and retain information, creating predictions based on this information, therefore exhibiting some higher-order thinking.
