Jill Tarter mentioned that there are plumes coming out of the moon Europa and we could fly through it to get a potential reading on extraterrestrial life there. I would ask her, do you think its possible that there could be intelligent life under the ice? Could there be large fauna that evolved in the ocean and never developed means of drilling out of the ice or sending signals that we might detect from it, but nevertheless have some sort of advanced society?
(I would have asked this question because 1. it seems that with abundant liquid water, then it might be at least possible that life could have evolved, and if not intelligent then maybe still large animals. and 2., because I think it would be very cool to find intelligent aliens in our solar system.)
Hey Nick, this is an interesting question. I did some further reading on the plumes and it seems like NASA will be launching a mission called the Europa Clipper in October 2024. I'm looking forward to checking back in 2030 when the probe reaches Europa!
