While there are many well established and mostly accurate predictive systems, many people do not act in accordance to the predictions as laid out. A possible explanation for this is illuminated from corroborating The Divination Tent and Kleinman which argue that humans sometimes don’t heed predictions as they have an appropriate level of denial, pushing such predictions to the back of their mind. Another interesting explanation is due to the uncertainty associated with a prediction. For example, given the uncertainty surrounding the precision of climate change forecasts, it leaves people with room to believe that something good / left tail events will occur.
