I was interested to hear Dr. Laibson discuss his thoughts on how machine learning and AI fits into the space of stock predictions. In my experience, I feel like I hear people make predictions about the future and choose one extreme end of the spectrum. In this case, that would either be believing machine learning will dominate the market share of future predictions, turning our world into a series of black-box models or believing that machine learning has no place in our future due to its elimination of humanity in choice. He has an interesting view that the two views of traditional prediction and AI will coexist. I find this interesting because for many consequential decisions it will make the process of trusting the computing power within machine learning models easier to be trusted.
