I've always loved thinking about aliens. So, I thought the conversation about predicted human behavior in our first contact with extra terrestrials was super interesting. I did not realize that there were entire sects of the government related to public relations ( and atro-ethics, etc) if this first contact happens. I suppose that Jill is right, the predicted human response to alien contact would be so crazy/eradic it would be extremely difficult to model. There would be so many different things to account for: who contacted them first, the aliens intelligence, if they are hostile or not, if we plan to have consistent interactions with them. I also find it interesting that roleplaying scenarios are being used instead of computer simulations, just because we do not have the data/tech to model a scenario like this yet.

I also find it extremely interesting that it is some peoples' jobs to figure out what we should do if we establish contact with aliens. Although I wouldn't have initially thought about that as a good use of money, I do suppose it is an important scenario to consider that we need to be prepared for. I think predicting and modeling human behavior for anything, let alone the human species reaction to coming in contact with aliens is impossible and will probably never be possible. There are simply too many variables to account for and many we don't even know exist.
