A piece of compelling information in the Jill Tarter interview was the discussion of "space entrepreneurs" like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, and the question of whether they would follow certain NASA enforced sterilization/reduced contamination procedures upon arrival on Mars. In the interview, SpaceX was mentioned as non-government funded, even though they actually do receive relatively small federal funds. Perhaps this could imply that such space regulations would be followed by SpaceX.
If I had conducted the interview, I would have inquired a bit further beyond surface level about Neil Tyson's speech at Harvard some twenty years ago about the problems our society/government would face upon human arrival on Mars. While Tyson's views on Mars exploration have changed, should we still be worried about ulterior motives to reach Mars?
